A CHRONOLOGICAL LIST OF ALL THE PLAYS PRESENTED BY THE NATIONAL THEATRE FROM 1963

The National Theatre is the largest theatre-producing complex in the world, staging over 20 productions of various kinds to more than 600,000 people per year and since its inception in 1963 has staged over 600 productions.

The plays listed here are those that the National has given on its main stages since its inception. Transfers, revivals, regional tours, Sunday night performances, Platform performances, occasional workshops and Studio nights, Young Theatre Festivals, as well as seasons at the Young Vic, Jeanetta Cochrane, and ICA are not listed. The dates given are of a production's press night at the National. For more comprehensive information on plays at the NT visit the NT Archive Catalogue.

You can find below various lists of plays that have appeared at the National. The titles, dates, venues and directors for every National Theatre production can be found on the full playlist. Other playlists concerning plays using masks, plays by Brecht and Chekhov at the National, and various others can be found below and are available to download.

The Archive Catalogue can be searched for cast-lists for any production that has appeared at the National Theatre.

As part of Kenneth Tynan's job as literary manager at the NT he produced a 'List of Plays for the National Theatre.' This document presented a list of plays from the Ancient Greeks to 1960s that Tynan considered suitable for selection by the National for its repertoire. This list is also available below.
